On Tuesday 3 March, the first day of the FOODEX 2023 agro-food trade fair was held in Tokyo, at the Tokyo Big Sight complex.
On this first date, the 12 Walloon companies that travelled to Japan were able to promote their (new) products to the public and to potential distributors.
Belgium's ambassador to Japan, Mrs. Roxanne de Bilderling, paid a visit to the companies and was able to witness the presence of Wallonia in the land of the rising sun.

FOODEX JAPAN FROM 9 TO 12 MARCH 2021
Foodex Tokyo 2021 opened its doors to the public. It will be held until March 12.
Despite a difficult health situation in Japan and travel restrictions still in effect, AWEX decided to maintain its presence at the Foodex Tokyo 2021 Fair through a 135 sqm booth under the Belgium flag in collaboration with its Flemish counterpart FIT.
As a reminder, Foodex Japan remains one of the largest «Food & Beverage» fairs in Asia with the presence (all categories) of more than 80,000 people, 4,550 stands representing more than 94 different countries and regions for the last physical edition (2019).
For this particular 2021 edition, three Walloon companies decided to be represented by their respective importer with an individual stand, namely Mydibel, Upignac, Neobulles. In addition, six additional companies (Millésime chocolat, Brasserie Kluiz, Brasserie de Londres, SF (Superfood) Beers, Brasserie Bego Sapiens and Couplet Sugars) opted for a «display» setting their products on our Welcome area with the active on-site support of our office in Tokyo.
The focus of this year's edition will be on the Japanese audience. We are convinced that the number of interested visitors will not miss for the products represented. It should also be noted that Foodex Tokyo has launched for the first time a parallel virtual platform that should allow potential buyers from all over the world to be « present ».

Walloon beef in detail
Wallonia has over 7,000 km2 of agricultural land on which 1.2 million cattle graze. Although there are a few foreign breeds, such as the Limousine, the Salers, the Charolaise or the Blonde d'Aquitaine, the star of Wallonia remains the Blanc Bleu Belge (BBB), which alone accounts for 80% of the cattle stock.
The many livestock farmers, who still often work as families, attach great importance to quality, service and animal welfare in harmony with biodiversity. In addition, the Walloon sector has put in place stringent hygiene procedures and benefits from optimal productivity capacity and traceability.
Unlike the practices in other countries, most Walloon livestock farms apply free-range methods, which means that the cattle spend much of their time in the meadow. This is a significant element which allows Walloon production to be described as ‘green' since it has a smaller carbon impact than intensive rearing. But that's not all. Thanks to this grazing time, Blanc Bleu Belge beef is also of very high quality, diversified and perfectly in line with consumers' tastes. It provides real nutritional benefits and a quality of taste that is both outstanding and varied: lean and tender or more flavoursome and marbled, depending on the gender of the animal and the fattening method.
The quality of our beef is undeniable. It is therefore already widely exported in Europe and the Walloon sector is now taking up new challenges, exporting further afield to regions of the world such as Asia, the Middle East or the Gulf countries.
In this context AWEX (the Wallonia Export Investment Agency), in collaboration with APAQ-W (the Walloon agency for the promotion of quality agriculture), is organising a visibility campaign for Belgian beef at major international, European and extracontinental fairs.
