ASSETS AND EXPERIENCE

The tried and tested experience of a 21-year-old cooperative (PQA in Malmedy) was exploited to the full. A market survey performed by the PQA sales reps among their network of butchers, shops and local authorities, to whom they only proposed pork, made it possible to gauge the interest and even the enthusiasm of the clientele in being supplied at the same time with organic beef. It was a win-win situation: on the one hand PQA is happy to propose a broader range and, on the other hand, the clients are guaranteed the quality of this new product, along with the professionalism and facility that the existing network offers them.

In fact, in addition to the organic regulations in force, specific specifications were drawn up and LBA, Limousin Bio d'Ardenne scrl, a cooperative company bringing together breeders of Limousin cattle, set out to ensure its rigorous application.

LBA takes care of the selection of the animals to be slaughtered, the application of the organic farming specifications and the application of more specific strict breeding and feeding criteria that it imposes on its members.

The breeding of limousine cattle complies with the organic philosophy and the transformation of the forage crops of the Ardennes, grasses and mixes of cereals, into cattle fodder.

OBJECTIVES

The objective of LBA is to inform butchers, restaurateurs and local authorities of the existence of this organic meat sector and, at the same time, increase the demand for organic meat, expand the number of cow producers within the sector and guarantee them a decent price for their production.

The objective is in fact to offer producers the best price in line with the proposed quality and not according to the tables and standards drawn up by the supermarkets.

The animals chosen to be marketed in the LBA chain are slaughtered in Ciney where the boning is also carried out along with the vacuum packing. They are then taken to Malmedy, to the PQA workshops, where the various categories of meat are weighed, graded and their price calculated. The quality of the animal and the professionalism of the producer will then be paid at their appropriate value.
